10. DO YOU ENHANCE PRINTS AND DOES IT COST EXTRA
Yes, Photo Art Canvas will enhance your prints for you as part of our standard service, this is included in the price; just tick the box in Section 7 on the 01 Create Page. The standard enhancement we carry out, as part of our service is colour correction & contrast, this is done in Photoshop using the tools available.
However
We do point out that with Jpeg files the level of corrections may be somewhat limited due to the compressed nature of the Jpeg file formats.

Conversion of colour images to Black and White or Sepia Tone is part of the standard service and is not charged as extras.

Photoshop Modifications: if you want Photoshop changes to an image and the work takes no longer than 10 minutes of Photoshop time & computing time then we include this as part of our standard service. Just let us know what changes you would like in Section 8 on the 01 Create Page

If however you would like a large amount of Photoshop work done then we have to charge for this work, out technicians are very experienced in Photoshop and the prices are reasonable, all this type of work is by quoted after we see a brief of what is required to be done.

11. HOW BIG A PRINT CAN WE GET FROM OUR DIGITAL FILES
This is a question that we get asked just about every day, and it’s a good question; digital imagery is great, camera sensors are getting better and the latest digital cameras have image movement shake compensation but digital is not perfect and Photoshop cannot fix all problems in digital imagery, the bigger the print the more the considerations that need to be made.

The enlargement size of the finished print or canvas will depend on the amount of pixels in the original file. Prints on canvas can be larger than on paper and not show as much breaking up of the dot structure or the quality; this is in part because of the textured weave surface of the canvas.

As a general rule for optimum reasonable quality we will not print larger than the following parameters;

Direct out put for printing onto Art Paper or Photo Papers      200 DPI (Dots Per Inch)
Direct out put for printing onto Canvas                               100 DPI (Dots Per Inch)

AS AN EXAMPLE:        lets say we have a camera that produces digital files 3000 pixels by 4000 pixels or 12MP (12 megapixels / 12 million pixels)

Paper
At output 200 DPI     = 3000 pixels divided by 200 DPI = a print 15 inches wide or ~ 38 cm
                              = 4000 pixels divided by 200 DPI = a print 20 inches long or ~ 51 cm

Canvas
At output 100 DPI     = 3000 pixels divided by 100 DPI = a print 30 inches wide or ~ 76 cm
                              = 4000 pixels divided by 100 DPI = a print 40 inches long or ~ 102 cm

So how can we get a print bigger than the optimum reasonable quality for the amount of pixels in the file?

Print the image at a lower DPI and this will give a bigger print; however the dots may start to show and this will depend very much on the distance the image is viewed from. Generally as a rule of thumb viewing should be no closer to the image that the distance across the diagonal of the image.

Use the tools in Photoshop to build pixels via an interpolation process in the software. In many instances this works very well and the process of building pixels may not be seen in the printing. Thus you can get bigger prints with less likely hood of seeing the dot structure in the print.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

The bigger the print the larger the enlargement factor, not only will the dot structure of the camera array or sensor start to show in the print or canvas but also any image movement or camera shake will be enlarged as well. In many instances this could be 15 to 40 times enlarging factor, thus any movement in the camera at the time of taking will be enlarged by the same amount of 15 to 40 times.

Many images do accept a high degree of enlargement factor and we also appreciate that people are interested in the image and the memory; the fact that the dot structure may start to show is not as important as the memory on Canvas or Art Paper.
